Apple trees, cider and butterflies
Once upon a time, in a hidden village in the Pyrenees, recovered stone by stone by the people who live there, there was a secret place where apple trees of ancient varieties grow, surrounded by butterflies, and where three types of organic cider are made in the traditional way.
With this experience you will reach the unknown village of Artosilla, visit a plantation of more than 60 varieties of recovered apple trees, discover a traditional cider press, learn how cider is made and enjoy a tasting paired with cold meats and cheeses from the Pyrenees. It is also possible to complement the visit with a guide specialised in butterflies... How does that sound?
- A minimum of 4 people and a maximum of 10 people are required.
- The price does not include the butterfly activity. It is necessary to indicate it after the booking confirmation; the conditions and prices of the butterfly guided tours will be arranged after the booking confirmation.
Your experience begins and ends in Artosilla, an old village located in the Pre-Pyrenees and owned by the Government of Aragon; in 1986 it was ceded, together with the villages of Aineto and Ibort, to the Artiborain Association, so that it could rebuild and repopulate them after more than two decades of abandonment, neglect and deterioration.
In this very special village you will find Sidrería A Finestra, a small initiative that respects the environment and the surroundings, which, as well as producing three varieties of organic cider, promotes the recovery of native and endangered apple tree species.
The experience includes:
- Visit to a plantation for the recovery of more than 60 varieties of old, native, high altitude and non-commercial apple trees included in a collaboration agreement with the CITA of the Government of Aragon, with the aim of preserving biodiversity.
- Visit to the cider press or winery where you can discover the cider making process.
- Tasting of the three types of cider paired with traditional Pyrenean cheeses and cold meats.
- The management of the plantation, which respects the autochthonous plant cover, allows the visit to be complemented by a guide specialised in butterflies by prior reservation.
The experience is paid directly to A Finestra, in cash on arrival, by bizum or by transfer beforehand.
Reservations must be made at least three days in advance.
Give as much notice as possible by whatsapp to Maria Jesus at 680742651
To sleep we recommend you to go to l'Almada de Yebra, in the town of Yebra de Basa, a social hostel that is also part of El Camino ESS and offers rooms with private bathroom.
You can contact María Jesús, from A Finestra, by email at mariajecorba@hotmail.com or by phone at 680742651 (please note that there is not much coverage in the village; it is better to send a WhatsApp).
In addition to visiting the village we encourage you to visit other experiences available at El Camino ESS in the same area.
The surroundings of Artosilla are difficult for wheelchair access or for people with reduced mobility.
